Savannah Red Cross to host a “How to become a U.S. Citizen” seminar and offer a “Prepareing for Citizenship” Class

There’s good news for local immigrants who are eligible to become U.S. Citizens.
The Savannah Chapter of the American Red Cross is planning to offer a class for immigrants wishing to prepare for their U.S. Citizenship test and interview. The Savannah Red Cross will offer the citizenship class, which will run for six consecutive Saturdays, beginning on March 24, 2012 from 9:30 am -12:45 pm at the Southwest Chatham Branch of the Live Oak Public Library, located at 14097 Abercorn St. (next to Savannah Mall). It will conclude on April 28. The class will focus on U.S. Civics and History to prepare immigrants for the Citizenship Test and help them get ready for the interview. The class itself is FREE. However, class participants are strongly encouraged to purchase the student books and CD study material at a cost of $51.00, if paid for in advance by March 16. After that date the cost will be $61.00. The 2011 class was very successful and we expect a great response for the 2012 class. The class size is limited and will be filled on a first come first serve basis, so people are encouraged to register now (and pay for the study materials if interested) by calling ph. 651-5371 or doing so in person at the Red Cross office located at 41 Park of Commerce Way, Bldg. 200 (just off of Chatham Parkway) in Savannah.
Local interested immigrants are also encouraged to attend a special “How to Become a U.S. Citizen” seminar (officially known as a “Naturalization Information Session”). It will be scheduled sometime early March in Savannah. The exact date, time and location will be announced in the February edition of La Voz Latina.
The seminar will be presented by a U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Community Relations Officer. He will explain how one goes about becoming a U.S. Citizen. The Red Cross will present information about its upcoming “Preparing for Citizenship” Class and its International Services Program. People will also be able to sign up for the citizenship class and pay for their study material at this meeting if spaces are still available.
Red Cross offers a variety of community services for local families in need such as:
1. Disaster assistance
2. Sending emergency messages to our military personnel stationed throughout the world
3 Health & Safety classes
4. Connecting families and loved ones when they have been displaced as refugees or communications are otherwise down due to disaster, civil unrest, or war in other countries
5. And so much more
The Red Cross would like to encourage all permanent resident aliens, refugees and asylees who have official status with the U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and are on a path to citizenship to take the new Red Cross “Preparing for Citizenship” Class.
