Notre Dame Academy is a Roman Catholic parochial school that offers an affordable education for Catholic families in downtown Savannah. The school is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and offers classes for children in Pre-Kindergarten through the 8th grade.
Located at 1709 Bull Street, the school is next door to the Sacred Heart Parish. Steeped in history, with academic roots that stretch back to the early 1900's, the current school was formed in 1990 as a result of a merger of two other Catholic schools, Sacred Heart School and Cathedral Day School.
Notre Dame Academy is dedicated to teaching children Christian principles rooted in the traditions of the Catholic faith. Its faculty and staff members are devoted to setting high teaching standards and expectations for all of its students, encouraging them to be responsible, prayerful, and moral. In a disciplined climate, conducive to learning, activities are offered that cultivate emotional, intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual growth of the whole person.
The entire student body attends mass at Sacred Heart Parish on the first Thursday of each month.
From the school's website: “We boldly proclaim that Jesus is Lord. Our curriculum is based on the four purposes of Catholic education: message, community, worship, and service. We provide an intense academic program for our students as a way to prepare them for the future challenges they will face in life.”
In addition to their religious training, Notre Dame students receive a quality academic education and participate in a variety of sports and cultural activities. The school is fully accredited by SACS and The Florida Catholic Conference and boasts a student/teacher ration of 12:1 which ensures that each child receives the individual attention he or she needs to excel academically and to become a productive citizen.
The Notre Dame Academy Home and School association is a group of involved parents that supports the school and its children by extending the school’s mission into their homes and the Savannah community at large. Every parent that enrolls a child at Notre Dame is a member of Home and School, and is encouraged to take an active roll in helping to promote the school in the community.
Notre Dame Academy accepts the ARETE Scholarship, a Georgia Student Scholarship Organization that supports public education by providing need-based private school scholarships to low-income Georgia families and also offers special tuition rates for students of qualifying families who are registered members of a Catholic church in the Diocese of Savannah.
The school will hold a “Back-to-School” open-house reception on August 15th from 6 to 8pm. Visitors who bring this copy of La Voz Latina with them can receive $200 off the school's registration fee.
